CORINA ARDELEAN

Corina is a Romanian watercolor artist who concentrates on floral and botanical illustration.

She started painting in oil, landscapes, and still life at the age of ten. In 1995 Corina earned a degree in Biology at the West University of Timisoara, Romania. During her study years she developed a passion for Botany. For her license thesis she focused on the ecology of hardy orchids around Bocsa, a locality in the western part of Romania.

After graduation, Corina worked for one year at the Environmental Protection Agency in Timisoara and for another year as curator in Botany at the Natural History Museum in the same city. In 1998, Corina came to the USA following her husband who was accepted in a Ph.D. program at the University of Kansas.

After a break of ten years, Corina had time to return to one of her close to heart activities, the painting. She found herself painting in watercolor and striving as much as possible for a better botanical illustration. Finally she found what really wanted to do; she was able to blend two of her beloved passions into a single one. Self-taught in watercolor media but with the experience of a biologist, she is now totally devoted to painting.

KAREN DAVIDSON

Karen was raised in Alabama, were she met and married her husband of 32 years. They had 3 sons and now have 2 beautiful grandchildren and a wonderful daughter-in-law in their family. She achieved her life-long dream of owning her own art gallery just 5 years ago and now has a joint interest in it with her husband since they added custom framing. She also teaches beginners' art to children and adults.

Karen developed her love of art watching her father sketch and do wood carving as a child. She began doing portraits for people while in high school as a hobby and went very briefly to Ringling School of Art after graduating. DRAGAN GRKOVIC

Dragan Grkovic's work is dedicated to those impressed with colors and vivid art of nature. He lives and works in Belgrade-Yugoslavia. However, he has very poor health and could not do much to promote his work by himself.

He and his wife have a gallery and antique shop, called "Major" in Belgrade Yugoslavia. However, in their war-torn country for the last 12 years, everybody, including themselves, needed more money for food than for the art.

His sister, Marica Bakovic, appreciates his work and wants to help the world discover his art. She is his sponsor and volunteers to market and communicate his work via her gallery/shop. The work shown on the Internet is from her gallery "ProArte" 75 Keats Cr, Guelph, ON, Canada, N1G 3C9.

AUDREY E. JORDAN

Audrey resides in Hampton, New Hampshire where you'll catch her strolling along the shore with her Schipperke dogs, Rascal and Rogue. She says the motion, color and scents seem to give inspiration to her work.

Impressionistic to abstract design forms the basis of her work. Watercolor is her first choice; however, many of her pieces are mixed-media and collage.

Capturing a certain mood of a moment in time or fragile memories in her mind's eye is an element often found in her paintings. One can almost smell the perfume of her soft florals, which is her favorite subject. Another love is the restless sea; she portrays this wonder with power, emotion and exciting color.

Ms. Jordan is a member of The Copley Society of Boston, International Society Of Experimental Artists and New Hampshire Art Association. She has been painting and exhibiting her art since 1979. Her work is included in private and corporate collections across the United States.

JUDY JOSEY

Judy Pamela Josey was born in 1953 in a province on the east coast of Canada in Nova Scotia called Halifax. She has always had an avid interest in art but never believed that she could paint until 1999 and started to self-teach by reading books and watching the great artist, Bob Ross, paint on T.V.

Although Judy developed her talent late in life, she learned a lot on the way. Her interests went from graphite to color pencil and then she fell in love with oils.

"The colors are so vibrant and alive" the artist says. She developed and has maintained her own website since April 2000 which has been well-visited and is an award-winning site.

Judy says that she strives for the 3D image. It has been said that her paintings are "haunting and also have a loneliness feel about them."
Her dream is be to be a career-independent artist.

JOYCE MECK

A transplanted eastern "mainlander," Joyce and her husband have been living in Maui, Hawaii for the past four years. She has an associate degree in commercial art, advertising and marketing, graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

For the past 25 years she has been designing logos, print media and signage. She is a member of the Hui No'Eau Visual Arts Society. "Painting is an obsession. While I feel that good design is imperative in painting, I don't feel like making all the decisions up front. Each painting is sort of a gift . . . or surprise at the end. I like to try and get a little abstract in the background sometimes, and try techniques like 'pouring.' I love brilliant colors, and try to make them work for each painting. I do about 30 - 40 paintings each year, this along with working full time as manager and designer in our sign shop. Living here offers much in the way of inspiration! The mountains are tremendous, as are the sunsets, sunrises, and the tropical flora and fauna. No wonder Maui is a haven for artists!"

Effective June 2002 she was accepted (by jury process) into the membership of the Lahaina Art Society.

GHASSAN RACHED

Ghassan is an artist and a geoscientist specialized in hydrocarbon exploration. It is an extremely demanding field as advances in technology are tremendous and the field is heavy in computers, mathematics, physics and geophysics.

Because of his demanding work schedule, Ghassan has little time to pursue painting which relaxes him and switches his mind from mathematical equations. His paintings are very representational in nature, because his scientific background is hindering his attempts to do abstract work.

He paints in oil and watercolor what he considers beautiful, relaxing, pleasant, and touches his heart for enjoyment but in a form enjoyed by others. His challenge to use both oil and watercolor continues.

As a geoscientist he has worked in Lebanon, Syria, Algeria, Belgium, England, Sudan, Abu Dhabi, Australia and Kuwait. In addition, he has traveled to many countries. Consequently, his paintings are influenced by his experiences in these countries and are found in many homes in them.

JERRY SCHWEHM

Born in the charming city of New Orleans in 1948, Jerry developed his interest in art after watching a PBS program on Jackson Pollock. That inspired him to do his first canvas of colorful lines and blotches that was displayed in his family den for several years.

Over the years he experimented with other media--silk screen, photography, and assemblage--but college, military, family, and work concerns took him away from art. After his wife died of cancer, Jerry retired from his law practice to do what he likes: cooking, canoeing, and art.

He began painting portraits of his children from photographs. With encouragement from friends, he tried other subjects as well. Finally, Jerry found his own personal style of painting, using acrylics in a Post-Impressionistic flare of bold colors and wavy lines.

Generally he creates small images on paper but he also produces larger canvases. He prefers painting from photos taken on his travels but also paints portraits on commission.

BARBARA STANTON

Barbara Stanton is a native Californian and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life.

Specializing in miniature oil paintings and portraits (miniature and full size), her charming landscapes, still lifes and portraits are done in a very traditional, realist style, on fine silk canvases.

Her superb use of color and light make each piece glow. The precisely detailed compositions, some no larger than a postage stamp, call out to the viewer to step nearer and explore them more closely, to feel the moment.

Barbara's work has found its way into art collections and miniature collections around the world. Miniature collectors are her biggest fans because she paints in scale with the popular dollhouse scale 1/12 (one inch equals a foot) and they fit just right in their fine miniature collections.

Painting for more than twenty five years now, Barbara has mastered her technique and continues to seek new challenges. She is an IGMA Fellow (International Guild of Miniature Artisans). She is also an art instructor and is available for demonstrations and workshops. Come visit her website for more info and a peek into her tiny world.

ANTHONY WALLACE

Born and raised in Connecticut, Anthony Wallace has been an avid outdoorsman his entire life. This has given him the opportunity to experience first-hand the beauty and splendor of nature and to acquire a knowledge of wildlife anatomy and behavior.

This exposure has greatly influenced his oil paintings and has added an important degree of authenticity to the completed canvas. Throughout his childhood, and in later years, it was his Father (a CEO of a major corporation and top political leader in the state who championed the cause for conservation of its natural resources) who not only taught him how to hunt and fish but also to appreciate and preserve our precious environment.

A college graduate, Anthony has never had any formal training and is a totally self-taught artist. Over the years he has painted throughout New England and especially admires the styles of John Singer Sargent and Frank Benson.

When not painting the outdoors and its inhabitants, he has on occasion delved into portraiture. His most treasured work was a gift portrait that he did for President Ronald Reagan which today can be viewed at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

Some of Anthony Wallace's primary associations include: Oil Painters of America, Wildlife Artists Association, The Ninth Life Fine Art Gallery of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and The Kent Art Association and Watertown Art League of Connecticut.

CATHERINE WATSON

The artist, Mary Catherine Watson (Vance), first fell in love with color at two years of age. Catherine, who lived in Upper Peninsula Michigan at the time, played with little paint chips that her mother brought home from a local hardware store. The first word she can remember saying was "turquoise."

Though born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the experiences of Michigan were her first impressionable memories. She can remember laying in a fishing boat and looking up at the clouds. Then, of course, she wanted to know the names of every type of cloud. As she reached into the water, she traced the shapes of the clouds with her tiny little fingers.

As Catherine grew up, her love of art encompassed visual and performing arts, and her sensitivity to nature never left her. Catherine's works are a tribute to the beautiful side of life.
